Mikuni's BBQ Albacore Tuna
(2 Servings)

-1 pound of sushi grade albacore tuna, chopped into 1/2X1 inch thick pieces -4 tablespoons of KewPie Mayo -2 teaspoons of Date Syrup (substitute sugar, Agave Nectar, or Maple Syrup) -2 tablespoons of Korean Fermented Red Pepper Paste (Gochujang) -Salt to taste
In a bowl, mix together mayo, date syrup, and red pepper paste with salt. Taste and adjust sweetness and saltiness to your preference. Set aside and keep cool inside of your refrigerator.
Take albacore tuna loin and cut into 1/2 inch by 1 inch pieces. In a large bowl, mix together 2 heaping tablespoons of bbq sauce with chopped albacore tuna pieces. Toss to coat the tuna with the sauce. Set aside.
Heat grill pan to high and when it is hot: cook marinated albacore for about 15-30 seconds per side. The albacore should be cooked to a blue to rare done-ness with grill marks for the best flavor results.
[If you like it well-done, you can take it off the grill and microwave slowly it until it reaches the doneness you like. This method to achieve a well-done cooking temperature is encouraged because keeping it on the grill too long may cause the sugars on the sauce coated on the tuna to burn.]
Serve the bbq albacore tuna with sliced green onions and an extra side of sauce for dipping. If you’re like me, add jalapeños and cilantro. You won’t believe how much more delish it gets!
